I'll be home for Christmas...

Hi Everyone:

Well, after 14 days in the hospital, the finally word is they aren't really sure what Jim had, but as far as his lungs are going, he's doing better there.  Today they gave him a blood test to make sure that his blood is okay.  Yesterday his blood count dropped drastically, BUT it didn't drop below where it used to be, so it's good.  Today's level is steady, so they are going to let him come home.  We will have to keep monitoring the blood to make sure he doesn't have that one rare blood disorder I mentioned previously, but so far so good.  Whew.  If Jim were a cat, he would be on about the 7th life.  But that he's God's child, he has who knows how many chances at life.  Now, Lord, about that pain...

He is very weak and I'm probably going to have to push him up the stairs, but he's coming home.  Waahoo.  He has spent to many birthdays and Christmasses in the hospital.  But not this year.  And Johnny and Leah and Winston are on their way, too.  And of course our new puppy dog.  We'll have to make sure he's not too stressed.  Okay, um....

Monday update

As of Friday....

Jim's sputum shows a rare fungal something or other, but they can't identify it.  So they want to do a bronchoscope.  They take him down, but the anesthesia (twilight) doesn't work on him and he can't go under.  Too many narcotics.  So, they do a ct scan on the spleen.  Not sure what that shows yet, except that it's enlarged, but it's always enlarged for years.  They are looking at that as the source of low platelets.  So today they are going to redo the bronch w/ an anesthesiologist.  So far Jim's blood numbers are holding steady.  I'm not sure how long they give it before they can tell if he has that bad blood disorder, but so far, it's holding.

Can anyone tell, I'm weary of these postings?  I mean, how many years of blah blah blah can one woman type about.  I guess it's better than repeating it 20 times on the phone.

So, there's the quick concise version.

still in the hospital

Well, Jim is still in the hospital.  They have ruled out another heart infection.  Whew!!!  And Leukemia Whew!!!

He definately has something going on w/ the lungs, but they aren't sure what.  Did the lungs cause the white blood cell count to drop or vice versa.  They gave him a large dose of Prednisone.  That night, he went into prednisone psychosis.  Not nice for him.  So, they stopped the Prednisone, but the the lungs got bad again.  When they give Prednisone, the white blood cell (WBC) count usually goes up.  His went down even further.  So, they had to give him a neupogen shot. the WBC's went up.  Then they gave him another shot.

Tomorrow they are going to do a bronchiscope to get a biopsy of phlegm to see what weird thing he has going on now.

The biggest thing is prayer is needed that his white blood cell count stays up.  If it doesn't, well, they will do a bone marrow biopsy, and determine if he has this bone marrow disorder,. Myleo...   MDS.  If he does, he will require chemo.  It's not good, if he has this.  So, please pray.

update

So far so good. Leukemia doesn't seem to be the worry. He had an echocardiagram to rule out another heart infection, so we're praying it's not that one.

After bible study yesterday, I went to the hospital and he couldn't breathe right. They hit him HARD w/ Prednisone (risky for him) in case it was a lung thing, and he started doing well, so they are thinking it's lungs. That's good news as long as it's not GVHD (which I don't think is the case) or some weird infection he won't be able to fight because of his immune system. But that he did so well after that high dose of steroids, I think, is good news.

Keep praying tho.

Hey, maybe I can get a dog after all. :)

In the hospital for the last time of 2012

Well, I kind of dropped the ball on my November update, so here it is.

Jim's in pain, still.

Here's is Decembers.  Jim's in pain, still.  AND now, he's in the hospital again, too.

It was a very weird day at the hospital.  They took him right away, he went into the back right away.  He had IV within 5 minutes and blood cultures taken.  An xray within 10mnins, and the word that the xray was clean within 12 minutes.  A doctor within 15 and antibiotics within a half hour.  After about an hour, he was admitted into his room.  So, it's like, okay, Lord, this is the way we all dream ERs should be, but usually aren't, so what's up w/ this?

It got weirder, when they called Lamperski, admitted him into the cancer ward, told us that he is Neutropenic, a word we haven't heard in many year, and asked the name of his Cancer doctor.

What does this mean?  I'm thinking it's the Lord telling us it's not the time to get a dog.
