up since 3 thinking too much

Well, I can't shake this cold or tooth ache, so I'm up.

I had a weird experience yesterday. I was going downstairs and asked Jim to come down. We had been talking. He said that when someone asks him how he's doing he's going to say, "a little bit better." Immediatedly after that I headed downstairs, and Jim followed, when he said, "Oh, what am I doing. I have to put my shoes on." And it was weird to me. Jim's feet/ankle pain/numbness/fire hotspots are so bad he wouldn't think of trying to walk stairs without shoes on.

I don't know why I post that and why it had such an effect of me. I guess it's just that within this weird little life we live, I've trailed off in my daily life far enough to forget something so significant as Jim can't walk without shoes on. And it made me sad to think that the grass under his feet would feel like needles trying to reach out to his midriff via his feet, and that he will never experience that cool sweet feeling, and even worse, that he will never do the Helgie shuffle again.

I guess I don't let myself think/feel a lot about these things. Besides surrendering them, I mean, what do I do with them? Weird...

I do try to understand. Seriously. I honestly think my American English skills are improving. You throw challenges all of the time.

I'm not sure I've experienced a "cool sweet feeling" of grass underfoot ... is that absolutely something that Jim misses ? Not something I would worry about as I'd rather avoid prickles, broken glass chips, syringes, stinging ants, funnel web spiders, dog droppings and .... ! Barefoot - It's a hazard.

The "Helgie shuffle" ? I have no idea whether it's a type of dance or a type of Swiss movement in the queue at the canteen. I guess you have to be fully dressed and wearing footwear as givens.

I got out the Google Machine for "helgie shuffle" and noticed that fourth option down already had mention in "Jim's Jabberings ........", the first option wouldn't open for me, and then second flashed up a Warning - to say some virus was detected. I got outta there quick. Maybe Helgie is dangerous. I should have realised my security surveillance anti virus (very cheap - free edition) didn't have its approval stamp on any of the "Helgi shuffle" options.

Whatever Helgi is, I'm not going to try it and on those virus results from the Google Machine, Jim should give it up.

In my posting on your prior blog entry, explaining echnidas and wombats, I was trying to be philosophical. "Nutty" - never !

Vegemite on toast and a glass of milk will help you sleep better, Gloria. It's kinda sweet though that you think about those things.

Helgie shuffle - never heard it called that before...but I love it!

The first and last time I actually laid eyes on a helgramite (google that Gaz - then you'll be in the KNOW! also spelled hellgramite/hellgrammite) was when yinz guys had us up at the cabin. I'll never forget thinking how crazy and brave Jim was for picking those things up!! I trouble touching one after it was dead (which still caught Jake a fish!!)

Well, there's other bait in the sea, right!?

Maybe Jim would like to coach Jake in the art of the "Helgie Shuffle?" Must teach the youngins to do this valuable skill.

And there's NO WAY that I can do it. Altho, I look for them almost every year - I look in all the wrong places and at the wrong times.

Paid a kid a dollar for what I thot was one once - but it was in August and it was 1/2 the size.

Well, see you on/off FB now!

I like the musings of this Gaz person. Where is Gaz from??

Mary - thank you so much for your post. You've helped immensely with my learning development.

I've concluded that the helgi/helgie shuffle is an "art" mastered by Jim high up thar in the mountain streams. I shuddered a bit just picturing the pain of the helgramite encountering the fish hook. For a second I was tempted to call Animal Liberation's hotine but flashes of gourmet potential stopped me.

I do white bait in light flour and a quick fry in light butter. Do you feel the same application could be appied to helgramites ? ... if so, I'd then need to deal with cookbook signings and store appearances ! Jim ---- can you do the illustrations?
My own mandibles would tire quickly.

Now must go to the GM to look up "yinz" guys.
